Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Guests from the United States of America

With great joy, we welcomed 32 employees of the Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) from the United States of America on September 26, 2017. The Sisters welcomed the guests to the General Motherhouse with ringing of Church bells and the waving of American and German flags. The guests remarked it felt like “coming home.”

The purpose of this visit was to learn more about the origin of the Congregation in Germany. Before arriving in Muenster, the visitors were on pilgrimage in Assisi and Rome.

While in Muenster, the group visited the city market, the Cathedral, St. Francis Hospital, St. Rochus Hospital, Telgte.  The Sisters of the Motherhouse community enjoyed visiting with the guests as well.

A Power Point presentation, explained the history and development of the Congregation, with emphasis on the beginnings of St. Francis Hospital, Muenster and St. Rochus Hospital, Telgte.

A lively discussion revolved around the German Health system.

During unscheduled hours, the guests enjoyed meeting and communicating with the sisters in the convent.  Despite language differences, the Sisters communicated ”the language of the heart.” On the last evening in Germany, the guests and Sisters enjoyed a grill party followed by a colorful cultural program presented by the Sisters for the visitors.

The guests returned to the United States of America on September 30, 2017.
