Sr. M. Theodora
Sr. M. Theodora is the youngest sister in the Japanese Province.
The Christian population in Japan is said to be 1%. The parents of Sr. M. Theodora are not Christian. But she went to a Protestant high school by chance. There she encountered Christianity. That school held a prayer service every morning. Though it was short, students sung hymns and read the Bible. They had a chance to learn the Bible from a teacher (minister), too. One day Sr. M. Theodora was invited by one of her friends. "How about going to church with me?” the friend said. "Father talks about the Bible." Being interested in the word: "Father", Sr. M. Theodora went to church with her. That church was a Catholic Church. There she came in touch with Catholic belief, and was baptized on Christmas in 1980.
Sr. M. Theodora said. "If my friend had not invited me to the Catholic Church at that time, I would not have become a Sister."
Sr. M. Theodora entered a Catholic University, and learned about Christian culture. In learning the way of life of St. Francis of Assisi, she became impressed by his life. During this time she felt God's call.
She acquired national registered dietitian's qualification in 1992, and joined the Community in the same year. After she made her first profession of vows in 1995 she served as a registered dietitian in St. Francis Hospital in Nagasaki. In 1997 she went to Himeji, where she served in the medical coding and accounting department in St. Mary’s Hospital. In 2007 she went to graduate school where she has been studying Business Administration. She will graduate from this school in March, 2009.
She says: "I don’t know what will happen in my life. The only thing I can do is trust in God and proceed. God has promised to us. Do not be afraid, I am with you! I am your God. Let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you. I will protect you and save you." (Isaiah 41:10)
